“The Great Bank Hoax” To Be
Released On DVD This Spring
While JOSEPH JACOBY is an inspirational and motivational speaker, he’s also a great comedic storyteller, both on-screen and in person, and the Hollywood stars he has directed through the years reads like a “Who’s Who in Hollywood.”
In fact, Jacoby himself was honored with a MoMA retrospective for his work in 2006, and is “a subject of biographical record” in the definitive Marquis’ “Who’s Who in Entertainment.”
Danny DeVito’s first theatrical picture, “Hurry Up, Or I’ll Be 30″, is one that Joe cast him for, and the story of how the two met on a cold winter night on Manhattan’s upper West Side is both true and hilarious, as is his encounter with Burgess Meredith when he had to coax and cajole Meredith into playing the lead role in the acclaimed Warner Bros. film THE GREAT BANK HOAX.
Robert Osborne, Host of Turner Classic Movies, has said of JOSEPH JACOBY’S “THE GREAT BANK HOAX” - “Carrying a class look, it’s a distinct throwback to some of those better comedies of the ’40s in which character actors get a chance to grab close-ups and run with the ball. In this case, it’s Richard Basehart, Burgess Meredith, and Ned Beatty; playing bumbling bankers who stage a cover-up with as many holes in it as Watergate.”
The DVD release of “THE GREAT BANK HOAX”, with its all-star cast, is due from Warner Home Video in late spring 2009. Also watch for its upcoming cable network release.
Combine inspiration and motivation with Hollywood dreams, and you’ve got the essence of Joseph Jacoby’s audience appeal. You can find out more about Joseph Jacoby by reading his acclaimed memoir BOY ON A STRING, with an Introduction by friend and NYU classmate, Martin Scorsese (available from most online bookstores), and watch for his powerful documentary “A Case of MisTaken Identity?” now playing the PBS stations, nationwide.
