The Family Fun Day will provide a meaningful and fun way to help change attitudes and educate people about diversity and differences, especially when it comes to Down syndrome. The organization plans to bring a lot of new families to one of Denver’s greatest cultural facilities and raise awareness for the Rocky Mountain Down Syndrome Educational Fund, a wonderfully worthy cause.

The Rocky Mountain Down Syndrome Educational Fund is a donor advised fund at The Denver Foundation. The Fund’s mission is to significantly improve the lives of people with Down syndrome through targeted education of caregivers, professionals, philanthropists, government and community leaders and the general public. The Fund’s vision is to change the paradigm of how people with Down syndrome are perceived by society so that they are valued and integral in their schools, jobs and communities.

Furthermore, Milkshake is probably the world’s most serious rock band for children. Not “serious” as in sad, but serious as in seriously musical. Made up of veterans of several Baltimore alt-pop, hard rock and progressive bands, Milkshake writes and performs music that is as musically sophisticated as it is lyrically lighthearted and child-centered. Though never condescending, they speak a kind of universally appealing language; a language familiar to young and old, child and parent, music fans of all ages.

Milkshake began in 2000, when singer Lisa Mathews and guitarist Mikel Gehl started to write songs inspired by their children. The band has released three award-winning CDs, and their music videos have appeared on Noggin, PBS KIDS and Discovery Kids’ Emmy-winning ToddWorld.

You’ll hear a bit of everything in Milkshake’s award-winning music, and yet the sound is utterly original, as rocking, playful and as strangely free of irony as the music they wrote and played for grownups. As Mathews says “we try to write music that reflects the state of being a child. We write music that kids can call their own.”

At birth, Hydeia was abandoned at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas where Patricia and Loren Broadbent adopted her as an infant. Although her HIV condition was congenital, she was not diagnosed as HIV Positive with advancement to AIDS until age three. The prognosis was that she would not live past the age of five, so she became the “test baby” for HIV medications that are currently in use today. Well, this “test baby” has defied the odds by 18 years which is valid proof that living with HIV/AIDS is very possible!

Broadbent debuted as an AIDS activist and public speaker was at the age six at one of her many visits to the hospital. By age 12 appeared on programs like Oprah, 20/20, Good Morning America and A Conversation with Magic Johnson. Over the next 10 years she became a notable speaker and guest panelist at some of America’s most respected educational institutions including Duke University, Clark Atlanta University, UCLA, USC, and Howard University. She has been interviewed by today’s prominent publications and television programs such as Essence Magazine, The New York Times, Seventeen, Nickelodeon, MTV, and BET. She has also been honored with a Red Cross Spirit Award and a 1999 Essence Award.

With her distinguished communication and presentation skills Broadbent is now a 23 year old consummate professional, international public speaker, and AIDS activist. His first book, Decathlon Challenge: Bruce Jenner’s Story, appeared on the 1977 “Best Books for Young Adults” list put together by the American Library Association. In 1980, he authored Bruce Jenner’s Viewers Guide to the Olympics, a handbook to the games, which was updated for the 1984 Summer Olympics. In 1984, he completed The Teenage Guide to Fitness.

Given his own battle with dyslexia, Bruce strives to further the efforts of agencies connected with learning disabilities. He has been one of several prominent Americans honored at The White House by the Washington D.C. based Lab School for Learning Disabilities. He is the recipient of the Celebrity Outreach Award for his continued extensive work assisting and aiding in charity fundraisers.

A Sullivan Award winner for his outstanding performance as an amateur athlete and the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year, Bruce is continually recognized for his varied and extensive achievements. He was inducted into the Olympic Hall of Fame in 1986 as well as the Bay Area Hall of Fame and Connecticut Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. He is also a member of the Track and Field Hall of Fame.

Born in Mount Kisco, New York, Bruce was raised in the Westchester County area. In high school he excelled in football and basketball as well as on the track, where he was an all-state pole vault and high jump champion. He was also the Eastern United States water skiing champion. Bruce later accepted a track scholarship from Graceland College in Iowa. It was at Graceland that his track coach, L. D. Weldon, recognized Bruce’s great athletic potential. Weldon, himself a world class javelin thrower, convinced Bruce that he should begin to train for the Olympic Decathlon.

When he’s not being a great dad, husband, entrepreneur or speaker, Bruce is most likely flying his own plane, working on his golf game, or looking for new and interesting elements to add to an already full and versatile lifestyle. Bruce resides in Lake Sherwood, California with his wife Kris, and their six children Kourtney, Kimberly, Khloe, Robert, Kendall and Kylie.
